Her areas of expertise are immunology & microbiology. She earned her bachelor’s at University of California, San Diego and her Ph.D. at University of California, Davis. She taught English in Japan in the 1970’s, which instilled the love of teaching. She recently retired from Sonoma State University, California, where she taught & conducted research with students in molecular biology & microbiology for over 20 years. She actively helped to develop student support programs, such as Women in Science and Expanding Your Horizons; and new curricula, such as Bioinformatics. In addition, she was active in consulting work with biotech & medical device companies in the San Francisco Bay Area. In the process, she developed internship & job opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students with a variety of companies and government agencies. Community service activities included teaching science and math workshops at all grade levels from pre-school to high school, and participating in creating the Technology High School, a joint venture between the local school district and Sonoma State University.

Some of the grants/awards she earned include Women in Science Project Grant, 1995, Excellence in Education Award, 1996, CSUPERB Mobile Computing Lab Grant, 2001, and

NSF Bioinformatics Curriculum Development Grant, 2002.

She is now actively involved in projects at AIMS, Amrita University, Kochi, Kerala. She enjoys the outdoors, especially hiking & boating, reading, and cooking.
